Texas Family Law Attorneys
Foster Parents ∙ Adoption ∙ CPS Appeals

At the Arlington, Texas, family law firm of Swanda & Swanda, P.C. our lawyers counsel and represent clients in a wide range of legal issues from foster parent intervention and CPS appeals to private adoptions and criminal appellate law matters.

Please contact  Swanda & Swanda, P.C. today for experienced, compassionate assistance with respect to the following:

Foster parent

Foster parents are often advised by CPS that they cannot intervene into a court proceeding unless they have had the child in their home for 12 months. This is inaccurate. The Fort Worth Court of Appeals, Second District, held in a recent decision that foster parents do not have to wait 12 months to become a party to a lawsuit. Many foster parents will try to obtain custody of their foster children only to have Child Protective Services (CPS) tell them that they are forbidden to do so. This is simply not true. It is the court, not CPS, who makes the ultimate custody determination. If CPS is denying your right to acquire custody or otherwise threatening to remove a foster child from your home, our firm will fight to protect your rights, as well as the child's best interests.

Adoptions

Our firm handles private adoptions, agency adoptions, stepparent adoptions, kinship adoptions, single parent adoptions, foster parent adoptions, contested/uncontested grandparent adoptions and recognition of international adoptions. Because our attorneys and staff are adoptive parents themselves, they understand the complexities and frustrations of the adoption process, as well as the joy adoption brings. Attorney Kellye A. Swanda is fully prepared to navigate the sometimes complex adoption process and will clearly explain each step to you.

Child Protective Services (CPS)

We represent parents falsely accused by Child Protective Services (CPS) of abusing their children. Rest assured, if CPS has moved to terminate your parental rights, we can help. Our firm also has the resources to assist you if the child you adopted through CPS has since become troubled and as a result, CPS has charged you with neglect.

Appeals

Our appellate attorney, Dean M. Swanda, has been practicing for more than 20 years. He has a high success rate when it comes to criminal appeals, juvenile delinquency appeals and Child Protective Services (CPS) appeals.

Please contact Swanda & Swanda, P.C. to schedule a consultation and honest case evaluation.
